“The 2009 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Réservée is a terrific effort still in its prime. Marked by scents of sweaty horse tack, it's also loaded with sweet black cherries, hints of smoke and dried herbs. Full-bodied and velvety, it finishes long and rich, with the suggestion of warm generosity. I suspect not everyone will love this wine, but for me, it beautifully captures the character of great, traditional Southern Rhônes.”

Notes Millésime - Pegau

The 2010 vintage will be remembered as one of the lowest in terms of volume produced, and one of the highest in terms of the quality of the grapes harvested. A rainy spring and dry summer produced extremely healthy grapes with a fine tannic structure. The red wines boast deep purple hues. The nose is intensely fruity, often with a hint of minerality. The most remarkable feature of the vintage is the very fresh balance of both reds and whites, with full-bodied mouthfeel and rich, fine-grained tannic structures. This is undoubtedly a vintage with great ageing potential. 2010 follows in the footsteps of the great vintages of 2000 and 2007. 2010 is Da Capo's 5th vintage and Inspiration's second...

“Looking at the 2010s and a brilliant vintage for Laurence, the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape offers up classic Pegau aromas and flavors of ripe dark fruits, garrigue, cured meats, tobacco leaf, saddle leather and hints of game. Full-bodied and beautifully concentrated, it offers a seamless, layered profile on the palate with thrilling mid-palate depth, sweet, yet substantial tannin, and a blockbuster finish that stays fresh and beautifully focused. Quite polished by this estates standards, it nevertheless screams southern France and I doubt it's possible to have too much of this beauty in the cellar. It will absolutely thrill over the coming 2-3 decades. Drink 2016-2030.”

The 2011 vintage at Châteauneuf-du-Pape was characterized by particularly favorable weather conditions, with grapes harvested at optimum maturity. After a hot, dry start to the year, the vines grew rapidly and flowered early. The summer, marked by moderate temperatures and well-distributed rainfall, enabled the berries to ripen evenly, without any water stress. This vintage produced well-balanced, expressive wines combining freshness, aromatic richness, good structure, roundness and a touch of rusticity.

“Beautiful in the vintage, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reservee is a forward, perfumed example of the cuvee that has classic Pegau black fruits, tobacco leaf, pepper and leathery notes as well as medium to full-bodied richness and depth on the palate. Early-drinking by this estate's standards, there's nevertheless good mid-palate density and fine tannin. It should have 15 years or so of overall longevity. Drink now-2026.”

Notes Millésime - Pegau

A well-balanced vintage thanks to warm, dry weather conditions. The summer, marked by low rainfall and good sunshine, favored regular ripening of the grapes, while the rains at the end of the season helped to avoid water stress and refine ripeness. The harvest, which took place between mid-September and early October, produced healthy, well-colored grapes of excellent quality. The wines now boast beautiful, deep colors, with balanced, fruity, round and unctuous profiles. The tannins are present but fine, with a nice freshness and a moderate alcohol level, offering harmonious, accessible wines.

“One of my favorite wines, the 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvee Réservée is a classic. Beautiful on the nose, with notions of ground pepper, wild herbs, minerality and smoked plum and dark fruit, it's medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated and has plenty of tannin that comes through on the finish. Similar in style to a lighter-weight 2010, drink this beauty anytime over the coming 12-15 years.”

Notes Millésime - Pegau

2013 stood out for its lateness and low yields, the result of a cool, wet spring that delayed the vegetative cycle and impacted production, particularly for Grenache. The summer, which was generally favorable, was unable to compensate for this delay, leading to one of the latest harvests in recent years, carried out in excellent conditions. Red wines offer elegant, well-balanced profiles, marked by freshness, moderate alcohol levels and a dominant expression of fruit. Grape varieties such as Syrah and Mourvèdre contribute structure, color and concentration. The white wines seduce with their aromatic freshness and complexity, with beautiful notes of citrus, flowers and exotic fruit, as well as good ageing potential. Overall, 2013 is a vintage of finesse and balance, favoring aromatic expression over power.

“There's an incredible track record of wines from this estate, even from difficult vintages, aging beautifully. A beautiful wine, especially in the vintage, the 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Réservée (80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 6% Mourvèdre and the rest other permitted grapes) has more depth and richness than most, as well as classic Pégaü notes of ripe black cherries, peppery herbs, tobacco leaf and hints of bloody meat. Medium-bodied, nicely textured and layered, it doesn't have the length or richness of a top vintage, but it has tons of character and given the track record here, I've no doubt it will have at least 10-12+ years of longevity.”

Notes Millésime - Pegau

This was a true «winemaker's vintage», in which hard work in the vineyard played a decisive role in the face of contrasting climatic conditions. After an early start to the season, a cooler, wetter and less sunny summer slowed the cycle, leading to a late harvest from mid-September onwards. The grapes harvested reached optimum ripeness, with a good balance between phenolic and technological ripeness. The red wines stand out for their elegance, silky, well-integrated tannins, and fruity, balanced, slightly less alcoholic profiles. All in all, 2014 is a well-balanced vintage, favoring finesse, freshness and fruit expression.

“According to Laurence Féraud, the 2014 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reservee was bottled in November 2016. It's already drinking well, with charming aromas of potpourri leading the way. It's medium to full-bodied, rounded out by just enough cherry fruit, then drawing to a spicy, leather-and-silk finish. Féraud calls it her little Burgundy.”

Notes Millésime - Pegau

The 2015 vintage at Châteauneuf-du-Pape stands out for its generosity, both in terms of quality and quantity. A hot, dry summer, punctuated by timely rainfall, enabled optimal ripening of the grapes, resulting in a perfectly controlled harvest. The Châteauneuf-du-Pape reds are characterized by beautiful, deep, dark colors that are already brilliant. Although dominated by black fruits, the aromas remain fresh, a sign of a perfectly ripe harvest. The silky, small-grained tannins are very present, fine and elegant. The wines are well-balanced, full-bodied and fruity, designed to age for many years, but with all the qualities needed to be enjoyed in their prime, as were the 1990, 1998 and 2010 before them. Balanced, complex and accessible, this vintage combines power and elegance, with excellent ageing potential, while remaining very seductive in its youth.

“Now that it has been in bottle a while, the 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reservee is looking even better than I projected based on last year's prebottling sample. It's all violets, cherries, subtle allspice and clove and traditional garrigue notes of lavender and thyme. Full-bodied and rich, it's crazy complex, adding hints of tar and black olives on the long, silky finish. It should evolve beautifully over the next two decades.”

Notes Millésime - Pegau

A fabulous vintage! Ideal weather conditions, with a hot, dry summer and wide temperature variations, enabled the grapes to ripen to perfection, in perfect health. The harvest, spread over several weeks, produced grapes of the highest quality, requiring very little sorting. The wines are distinguished by their aromatic intensity, complexity and purity. The 2016s, for their part, are characterized by very clear, frank, intense and complex aromatic expression. Depending on the terroir, Grenache wines exude fragrances of raspberry, licorice, garrigue, candied ginger, black fruit and citrus. The blending of the appellation's different grape varieties gives rise to a «magical complexity», an expression of the resonance found between varietal typicity and the influence of terroir. Red wines boast dense, dark colors and very high levels of anthocyanins. On the palate, the wines are full-bodied, vinous and beautifully fresh. In a word, powerful! The tannins are very present, their grain extremely fine and already very silky. This vintage combines power, elegance and balance, and is one of the appellation's great years, with excellent ageing potential.

“Every year that I've tried the 2016 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Réservée, I've liked it better than the year before, so I've gone ahead and peremptorily added the + sign to this year's rating. Black cherries and licorice pick up a hint of chocolate in this full-bodied, rich, velvety wine that should evolve nicely for at least 12-15 years.”

Notes Millésime - Pegau

The 2017 vintage at Châteauneuf-du-Pape was characterized by a hot, very dry climate, giving rise to an early year and low yields. Despite these extreme conditions, the health of the grapes was exceptional, enabling a rapid, high-quality harvest. The red wines stand out for their beautiful ripeness, black fruit aromas, long, structured mouthfeel and velvety, elegant tannins. All in all, 2017 is a concentrated, balanced, high-quality vintage, marked by aromatic richness and fine tannins, despite limited production.

“The 2017 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Réservée hits the standard assemblage: 80% Grenache, 6% Syrah, 4% Mourvèdre and 10% «others.» Still in cask at the time of my visit, it has expressive floral and garrigue notes, plus hints of star anise layered over a base of black cherries. Full-bodied, deep and rich, this looks like a vintage to set aside for a while, with at least 15 years of longevity ahead of it.”

Notes Millésime - Pegau

The 2018 Châteauneuf-du-Pape vintage is distinguished by contrasting weather conditions and high-quality wines. After an exceptionally rainy start to the year, marked by heavy mildew pressure, the hot, dry summer and favorable month of September enabled optimal ripening of the grapes and a serene harvest. The wines are beautifully balanced and long on the palate. The reds feature red and black fruit aromas, silky tannins and long, smooth finishes. Overall, the 2018 vintage combines maturity, elegance and ageing potential.

The 2018 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Réservée is full-bodied but quite approachable and easy to drink, loaded with black cherries and plummy fruit and tinged with licorice. A blend of 80% Grenache, 6% Syrah, 4% Mourvèdre and 10% other permitted varieties, it finishes long and silky.

Notes Millésime - Pegau

Lots of color and structure: a superb vintage. It was characterized by perfect health and generally hot, very dry weather conditions. After a moderate spring in terms of rainfall, the scorching summer and water stress produced small but highly concentrated grapes. The rains in mid-September brought the grapes to a good level of ripeness and balance. The red wines stand out for their intense color, aromatic richness and silky tannins, offering good concentration and great ageing potential. They present aromas of ripe fruit, raspberry, candied ginger and, in the case of Syrah, mentholated notes. On the palate, the 2019 vintage has excellent ageing potential. Despite relatively high alcohol levels, the tannic structure is elegant, saline, with good concentration and discreet acidity...

Notes Millésime - Pegau

The 2020 vintage is full-bodied and well-balanced, with great ageing potential. It stands out from the powerful 2019 vintage for its balance, freshness and roundness. Marked by an early vegetative cycle and globally favorable climatic conditions - with replenished water reserves, a warm summer without excess and some welcome rain - the year enabled optimal ripening of the grapes. The early, serene harvest took place in excellent sanitary conditions, producing grapes of the highest quality. The wines reveal fresh, elegant profiles: the reds combine finesse, purity of fruit and supple tannins, with aromas ranging from raspberry and garrigue to blackberry, white pepper and menthol. Accessible in its youth while retaining magnificent ageing potential, 2020 is a harmonious vintage, combining deliciousness and balance.

Notes Millésime - Pegau

Marked by demanding climatic conditions, 2021 returned to a more «classic» style, reminiscent of that of some fifteen years ago. Despite an exceptional spring frost in April, damage remained limited thanks to the influence of the wind and the Rhône, preserving most of the vineyard. After a mild winter and cool spring, the summer was not excessively hot, allowing the grapes to ripen gradually, supported by timely rainfall. The longer vegetative cycle led to a later harvest in excellent health. The wines have moderate degrees of alcohol, good acidity and good color intensity. They thus offer a balanced profile, combining freshness and structure, with good ageing potential, while remaining accessible in their youth.

Notes Millésime - Pegau

An extraordinary vintage, with low yields but excellent wine quality. This vintage stands out for its exceptional earliness, low yields and excellent wine quality. Marked by a very dry and hot climate from spring to summer, with a significant water deficit, the year put the vines to the test, revealing a vintage of resilience in which each plot expressed itself in a singular way. Some welcome rains, particularly in mid-August, and the Mistral wind helped to keep the grapes in good health, despite stormy spells sometimes accompanied by hail. This extraordinary vintage produced concentrated, high-quality wines, reflecting both the richness of the climate and the skill of the winemakers.

Notes Millésime - Pegau

2023 fully illustrates the richness and uniqueness of its terroirs, with fine, long wines marked by a beautiful salinity. Despite a dry winter, the late spring rains favored optimal vine development, while the hot, dry summer enabled the vines to reach excellent ripeness, with generous yields. The health of the vineyards was preserved by the Mistral wind, and the harvest produced grapes of excellent quality and perfect ripeness. The red wines are elegant, structured and full-bodied, with aromas of red fruit, spices and menthol. With silky tannins and good drinkability, they combine complexity, freshness and generosity. The 2023 vintage thus stands out as a great vintage, reflecting both the expertise of the winemakers and the appellation's remarkable ability to adapt to climatic challenges.
