Domaine du Pegau

The strength of a heritage, the birth of a great estate
history of domaine pegau

Established in the heart of Châteauneuf-du-Pape for several generations, the Féraud family, pursues with passion a winegrowing tradition deeply rooted in its terroir.

In 1987, Laurence Féraud and her parents, Paul and Odette, founded their own independent family entity: le Domaine du Pégau, today recognized among the appellation's most traditional estates.

The name «Pégau» refers to a 14thᵉ century Provençal pitcher used during the papal presence in Avignon - a strong symbol linking the history of the estate to that of its terroir.

From the age of fourteen, Paul Féraud became fully involved in the family business, which at the time consisted of around twenty hectares, most of which was sold in bulk to major wine merchants.

In 1964, driven by the desire to reveal the unique identity of his wines, he decided to produce and market his first cuvée under his own name, to the tune of 2,000 bottles a year - a seminal step.

After studying viticulture and wine, supplemented by business and marketing training in Paris, Laurence Féraud chose to return to Châteauneuf-du-Pape to work alongside her parents in developing the estate. Visionary and determined, in 1987 she proposed the creation of an independent family estate on 5 hectares and registered the name «Pégau».

Over the years, the gradual acquisition of additional plots, particularly of old vines, has enriched and structured the vineyard, enhancing its qualitative potential. Faithful to a traditional philosophy, the Domaine favors low-intervention whole-cluster vinification, long maturation and the use of large old casks, guaranteeing the authentic expression of the terroir.

Château Pegau

A new page in the history of Pegau

In January 2012, Domaine du Pegau adds to its winegrowing heritage with the acquisition of a single-block 41 hectare property to be named Château Pegau.

Situated along the banks of the Rhône at Sorgues, between Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Avignon, this large building is surrounded by a vineyard planted on an exceptional terroir, dotted with rolled pebbles. A former boatmen's relay, the 1,200 m2 bastide stands at the heart of a vineyard in the Côtes-du-Rhône, Côtes du Rhone villages and Vin de France appellations.
